Dr. Supranamaya Ranjan
Dr. Supranamaya Ranjan is a Senior Member of Technical Staff in the Office of Narus CTO. He obtained his PhD in Electrical Engineering from Rice University and brings a wealth of expertise in designing solutions for detecting and preventing all things malicious in the Internet including worms and distributed denial-of-service attacks.
Dr. Ranjan’s dissertation titled ‘High Performance DDoS-Resilient Web Cluster Architecture’ introduced a novel global-scale distributed web cluster that efficiently utilizes the cluster resources and is resilient to DDoS attacks. His thesis was the first in proposing the concept of guerilla attacks on an enterprise system, attacks which appear innocuous on the outset and are otherwise indistinguishable from legitimate users. He has published extensively in IEEE conferences such as Infocom and IWQoS and is currently serving in the Technical Program Committee of IEEE Infocom 2007. He has co-authored several patents through his research.
His current research and development efforts are geared towards designing the next-generation network shield for protecting the Internet core, BGP routing infrastructure, VoIP networks, P2P overlays and WiFi clouds. Dr Ranjan also holds a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering from Rice University and obtained his Bachelors in Computer Science from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. He has done research internships at HP Labs and Google. He has won numerous awards including the prestigious National Talent Scholarship awarded to 500 scholars annually by the Government of India.
