Narus and NEC Broaden relationship

Agreement Expands Support of KDDI’s IP Services Platform

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.—February 14, 2006—Narus announced today that NEC (NasdaqNM:NIPNY) has signed an agreement that expand support and licensing for NEC’s implementation of the NarusMediate ™ IP mediation system at KDDI in Japan. NEC and Narus have teamed to create a comprehensive content-based mediation system for the successful browsing of IP services across KDDI’s mobile network. KDDI (NYSE:CRM), Japan’s second- largest mobile carrier, is a worldwide leader in delivering mobile multimedia services. Initially implemented in KDDI’s high-speed 1x 3G service in 2001, the Narus/NEC system was expanded in 2003 to include their 1X WIN service, and now for a third time in support of their recently announced PC SiteViewer project. PC SiteViewer is an innovative service that will allow customers of KDDI’s new handsets available in the Japanese market the opportunity to enjoy full Internet access. The unique demands of providing wireline services across a mobile network require a carrier-class, content-based mediation system and the flexibility to integrate into virtually any billing system.

“Classifying the traffic that crosses KDDI’s network is key in mediating new revenue streams that keep them at the competitive forefront in Japan’s mobile market,” said Mr. Tsukasa Ogawa, Senior Manager of NEC's 2nd Network Solutions Division, NEC. “Over the past four years, NEC and Narus have teamed to provide KDDI with the ability to process more traffic, faster and with unmatched accuracy. NarusMediate is a key ingredient of the platform NEC has built to deliver innovative, targeted IP applications like PC SiteViewer to our customers.” With over twenty million 3G subscribers, KDDI is one of the largest 3G operators in the world. KDDI has the edge in the extremely competitive Japanese mobile market because they continue to deliver groundbreaking IP content services to their customers. NarusMediate’s total network view provides NEC with the information needed to mediate targeted products and service models for KDDI’s customers.

“Narus has built a global reputation for offering the most powerful, carrier-class system for capturing, correlating and analyzing IP traffic at ultra-high speeds,” said Steve Bannerman, VP of Marketing at Narus. “We are proud to have teamed with NEC over the past four years to implement our system in support of KDDI’s IP convergence vision, and we’re gratified that they have demonstrated their confidence in Narus by awarding us this agreement. We look forward to building an even closer relationship in the future as KDDI continues to deliver on the promise of the IP revolution.”
