May 3, 2004, Mountain View CA — Narus, the leading carrier-class IP platform software provider, today announced that it has signed a partnership agreement with Giza Systems, a leading Egyptian network systems integrator, to deliver a turnkey solution to a Middle Eastern carrier for the detection and management of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) traffic.
Giza Systems was engaged by a Tier-1 Middle Eastern telecom carrier to develop a system to manage and alleviate unregulated VoIP traffic, which costs Middle Eastern carriers the equivalent of millions of U.S. dollars every month. The unregulated traffic is also consuming valuable resources on a network that is designed and built to carry other types of data traffic.
After a detailed selection process involving the carrier, Giza Systems chose Narus’s IP Platform, which enables the granular data collection, flexible processing, and real-time analytics that are needed to ensure program success. Narus is unique in its ability to process the traffic of the entire network in real time, isolate VoIP traffic records and send reports to the network management systems. By providing a total network view, Narus’s solution immediately highlights the vast amounts of VoIP traffic both within this carrier’s national borders, as well as the VoIP traffic travelling to other parts of the world. Armed with this information, the carrier has the flexibility to appropriately bill for service and block disruptive traffic.
“Narus proved to be the only partner that could meet the specific requirements of our carrier customer to address fraudulent use of the network and solve the massive VoIP traffic monitoring and billing issues,” said Mohamed Sedeek, Director of Engineering of Giza Systems.
Narus and Giza Systems collaborated closely on the development of this first-of-its-kind solution for the Middle East carrier. Conventional VoIP solutions bill for calls going through a soft switch on a managed network, but do not have the depth to detect unmanaged VoIP traffic. Narus provides the detailed data collection from a combination of core and access links as well as the processing of the raw data into VoIP records (similar to those that might be produced out of a switch in a managed network), while Giza Systems provides the complete integration and project management of the Narus platform into the carrier network.
“This joint solution demonstrates the value of the depth, scalability, and real-time capabilities of the Narus IP Platform,“ said Greg Oslan, president and CEO of Narus. “We look forward to a long relationship with Giza Systems and their customers.”
