U.S. Cellular Uses Narus IP Platform as Competitive Edge

Announces Deployment of Narus’ IP Platform for IP Data Billing Mediation

Mountain View, Calif., March 14, 2005—U.S. Cellular Corporation (AMEX: USM) has deployed Narus’ Carrier-Class IP Platform software to provide IP billing mediation for its easyedgeSM data application services.

Narus’ IP Platform is operational in the U.S. Cellular network, providing volume and content-based billing mediation for the company’s messaging and easyedgeSM services. U.S. Cellular is using the solution for all data billing mediation across their customer base of more than 4.9 million subscribers in 148 markets in 25 states.

“The flexibility and ease with which we can expand and add applications differentiates Narus from any point-solution competitors,” said Mike Irizarry, executive vice president and CTO at U.S. Cellular. “The Narus IP Platform gives us a competitive advantage, allowing us to efficiently add applications that in turn allow us to provide more value to our customers.”

The Narus IP Platform provides a “total network view” of IP data from Layer 2 to Layer 7, across multiple networks. The Platform captures, analyzes and correlates traffic across the multiple networks, providing a normalized interface to multiple applications.

“With Narus we can launch new applications based on the same installed platform and normalized data,” said Irizarry. “That the Narus IP Platform is application and network agnostic was critical in our vendor selection.”

“We are pleased to be helping a market-leader like U.S. Cellular achieve its objectives with the use of our advanced visualization and billing mediation applications,” said Greg Oslan, President and CEO, Narus. “The Narus IP Platform delivers on those requirements and assures U.S. Cellular a scalable solution to meet their future business needs."
