Narus System Chosen to Detect Rogue VoIP Traffic
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.—September 21, 2007—Narus, Inc., the leader in carrier-class security for the world’s largest IP networks, today announced that the company has teamed up with Inbox Business Technologies Pvt. Ltd, a leading total IT solution provider in Pakistan, to keep Pakistan’s telecommunication networks clear of illegal, rogue and malicious IP traffic. NarusInsight was chosen by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) (the government administration responsible for regulating the establishment, operation and maintenance of telecommunication systems, and the provision of telecom services) to detect rogue VoIP traffic flowing through the telecommunications network in Pakistan.
The PTA decided to implement NarusInsight after the revenues of PTCL and the other LDI operators declined significantly as a direct consequence of the amount of rogue traffic flowing through the network. Specifically, the PTA will leverage NarusInsight’s traffic management capabilities to detect illegal VoIP gateways in an effort to recapture that revenue.
“Very few traffic management solutions are production proven, and can address the scalability requirements of analyzing traffic on a national scale,” said Major General (Retired) Shahzada Alam Malik, Chairman, PTA. “NarusInsight is both flexible and scalable, and will have a significant impact on the security and integrity of traffic sent over our networks.”
NarusInsight employs off-the-wire data collectors and patented parsing algorithms to detect and monitor protocols and applications in real time. It delivers
the outputs, features and functions in a single system that empowers customers to effectively and efficiently manage IP traffic and applications.
“Rogue VoIP traffic is a major problem that often goes unaddressed, while causing billions of dollars in lost revenue and posing significant security risk to carriers, businesses and individuals,” said James Mullins, vice president of sales and services, EMEA and SE Asia of Narus. “We designed NarusInsight to allow carriers to recapture lost revenue, while improving the security and stability of their networks. We applaud the proactive steps taken by The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority to provide a better, more secure infrastructure for users of its telecommunications system. We look forward to working with Inbox on implementing this very important solution in Pakistan.”
